Once again, Congress has put a temporary patch on the looming Medicare payment cut. The latest Band-Aid stops the 21% cut and implements a 2% increase through November 30, 2010. The increase will automatically be applied retroactively for physician claims on or after June 1 by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Payments reflecting the new fee schedule should begin flowing by Thursday, July 1.

If Congress does nothing between now and November 30, Medicare payments will drop by more than 23%. On January 1, 2011, the cut will be an additional 6%. “I don’t want to be watching Congress wrestle with this turkey of an issue on Thanksgiving,” TMA President Sue Bailey, MD, said in a news release after the House vote.

As a service to its members, TCMS maintains applications of personnel seeking employment in a physician’s office. These include everything from front office to nursing personnel. TCMS members, or their office staff, may come by the Society office, 4300 N. Lamar – second floor; review the applications; and select those that match your specific needs.

Copies will be made of those you may wish to contact for an interview. These applicants are not screened by the Society as we do not serve as a personnel placement agency. Have you noticed the new features in the 2010 pictorial Directory? The Specialty Code section (pages 254-277) lists members by their designated specialty, but also includes additional offices by city. A Practice Listing section, to assist in the referral process, has been added on pages 281-288. The practice listing section is reserved for TCMS members who would like to promote certain features of their practice such as, languages spoken, specialized treatments, partners, other locations, web address, etc.

For information on placing a practice listing in the 2011 TCMS pictorial directory, email rmize@tcms.com or call 206-1245.

The TCMS roster is a handy reference that includes names, addresses, and phone numbers of TCMS active members. Additional information utilized by your staff on a daily basis includes physician NPI numbers, faxes, and a list of pharmacies.
