The Health Careers Mentorship Program (HCMP) is a student-run organization at the University of Texas at Austin dedicated to providing its members with the opportunity to gain valuable insight into the clinical and nonclinical aspects of the health care field. HCMP seeks to bridge the gap between undergraduate pre-med students at UT and physicians in the Austin area by coordinating shadowing opportunities between first semester interns and preceptors.

As a preceptor you would see two to four students per month. Each student schedules an individual shadowing visit that lasts approximately four hours.

Applicants are required to have Introductory Biology and Medical Terminology course credits, volunteer for at least 80 hours in a clinical setting, write a personal essay, and submit a letter of recommendation. After screening each application, interviews are conducted and students are then selected to participate in the program.

Prior to shadowing, members complete HIPAA certification and undergo comprehensive CPR/AED training.

For questions, contact Estefania Fernandez at (305) 336-9780 or hcmp.preceptors@gmail.com.
