The Travis County Medical Society Blood Bank was founded in 1951 to supply needed whole Blood to four Austin Hospitals and some rural hospitals. Over the next two decades, the name and location of the blood bank changed several times as it evolved to serve a growing population and hospital base.

Today, The Blood and Tissue Center of Central Texas is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit affiliate of the Medical Society. This fully accredited Center is the exclusive provider of therapeutic blood products, traditional tissue grafts, and tissue donor recovery services for over 30 health care facilities in ten Central Texas Counties.
